Getting prepared for Christmas
Posted by The Turkey Team on 21st Nov 2020
The countdown to Christmas has begun and this weekend is officially when we should all be making our Christmas Puddings! We thought we’d share some family tips to help you have a stress-free Christmas.
Order your turkey!
This year, more than ever, we suggest you order your turkey as early as you possibly can. We’ve sold out of some smaller sizes already so order the closest to what you need or call the Turkey Team on 01628 499980.
Make your Christmas Pudding
This weekend is officially Stir Up Sunday when we should all be making our Christmas Puddings! We can heartly recommend our family favourite recipe from Aunt Stella.
Christmas cakes can be made up to 3 months ahead.
Write Christmas lists
Verity Copas is the Queen of Christmas Lists and her spreadsheets are a wonder to behold! We wouldn’t expect you all to be quite as prepared (there are 14 sheets in Verity’s spreadsheet!) but how about spending a bit of time to write the following:
- Gift Ideas
- Who to buy for
- What to buy them
- What you would like to receive
- Menu for
Christmas Day
- Shopping list
- What to prepare before the big day
- Schedule for Christmas morning
Make your Christmas Wreath
Decorate your front door with a festive handmade wreath. You can go for a natural look or use baubles for more contemporary look.
Check your Christmas lights & decorations
Dust off your baubles & check your lights are all working.
Buy your Christmas Tree
We know some of you have already put your tress up but we’re not that organised so tend to dig into our decorations box the first weekend in December. Buying the tree is the start of our Christmas festivities and have a wide choice of places to go from local school fairs, cut your own farms & the fantastic Tree Barn at the aptly named Christmas Common.
Do your Christmas Playlist!
Music plays a major part in our festive traditions from what to play when decorating the tree to creating a new playlist every year of old classics and new favourites.
So many new Christmas albums have been released this year so refresh your favourite playlist.
Currently on ours:
Jamie Cullum: The Pianoman At Christmas
Dolly Parton: A Holly Dolly Christmas (including a duet with Michael Bublé!)
Carrie Underwood: My Gift
Meghan Trainor: A Very Trainor Christmas
Pentatonix: We Need A Little Christmas
Michael Ball & Alfie Boe: Together At Christmas
And if you want some classic Christmas songs, you can’t go wrong with:
Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas
Annie Lennox: A Christmas Cornucopia
Michael Bublé: Christmas
Bing Crosby: White Christmas
Elvis Presley: Christmas With Elvis
Josh Groban: Noel
Phil Spector: A Christmas Gift For You
Jane Lynch: A Swingin’ Little Christmas
If you don’t have a Christmas Playlist, we’ve made one on Spotify for you to enjoy:
